With the amendment of the Customs Tariff Act, import duties for all industrial products in the Swiss Customs Tariff will be abolished. At the same time, the customs tariff for industrial products will be simplified by merging numerous tariff numbers.
The import of industrial products will be facilitated and will give companies access to cheaper goods from abroad. The measures thus strengthen the competitiveness of the domestic and export sectors of the Swiss economy.
The date of entry into force was chosen in order to keep the conversion effort for economic actors as low as possible and to give them sufficient lead time for the necessary technical and organisational adjustments.
