Switzerland has voted in favour of the free trade agreement with Indonesia, despite a narrow margin. The Swiss export industry, especially the machinery, chemical and pharmaceutical industries, is relieved to be able to supply the Indonesian market mainly without import duties.
This free trade agreement is the first free trade agreement in the world that also includes environmental requirements. It also clearly shows that future free trade agreements will only be tolerated by the Swiss population if sustainability is also taken into account.
